Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part I

With all the hype surrounding the finale (or half of it) of the Oh Soooo Famous Harry Potter, how could I not catch it at the theatres?....
I even paid the extra dollars for a night showing.

NOTE: This is a review from a completely unbiased writer. I was never a fan or an anti-fan of Harry. I will do my best to provide a reasonable review =)

Director: Daniel Yates
Producers: David Heyman, David Barron, J.K. Rowling
Screenplay: Steven Kloves
Cast: Daniel Radcliff, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson

Summary (for those like me who have never read a single Harry Potter book)
The majority of the film focuses on  Harry, Hermoine, and Ron's journey to find the remaining Horocruxes and ultimately getting ready for the most dangerous difficult task of their lives: facing the Dark Lord. Along their travels they face betrayal, deaths, doubts, and a new danger which has to do with the Legend of the Deathly Hollows.

Review
It really was quite an enjoyable movie, and this is coming from someone who super picky with her movies. WARNING: A person who has not seen the previous movies or read the books might get completely lost. However, even if a person is not a fan or has no idea what is going it is still enjoyable.  The special effects are wonderful, the music is fitting, the costume and make-up are magical, and the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. This movie I must mention, has some of the most beautiful sets and locations.

The cast performances also were a highlight. Especially Emma Watson (Hermoine Granger). Watson steals the scene everytime and outshines her castmates Rupert Grint (Ron Weasely) and even our homeboy Daniel Radcliff (Harry Potter).  Each three though displayed an emotional depth that they didn't get to explore in previous installments. Already from the opening scene, their growth and maturity as actors is apparent. With the three of them in 90% of the scenes they do a great job of carrying the movie.Voldemort potrayed by Ralph Fiennes and Dobby, voiced by Toby Jones are other characters to look out for.

I was quite upset though by the fact that Severus Snape, who is my all time favorite Harry Potter character, appeared in less then 5 minutes of the movie.

A picture is needed to compensate for this loss

The plot moved in a good pace, not too rushed or dragged out. One scene in particular that stood out was the depiction of the Legend of the Deathly Hollows. It was animated beautifully and complete with Harmoine's narration made the mood perfectly haunting and entertaining. Definetely watch out for that.

The plot also successfully developed the three mains relationship to the next level. The tension between Ron and Harry, the romance between Hermoine and Ron, and the comfort between Harry and Hermoine were all a joy to watch. The interactions between the three alone, made the movie worthwhile.

Aww don't they look so cute together

My one problem was that this movie really did not do much for the overall plotline of the story. In the whole 140 minutes only one horocrux was found and destroyed and only was it in the last 20 minutes did Harry find out about the existence of the Elder Wand. Really Harry? That's all you can do in 2 1/2 hours? This leaves me wondering, how are they going to cram the remaining events into Part II.
